The state of Alaska requires all college students to take the PPST I / Praxis 1 for all teaching areas, upon entrance into your specific teaching program.
When you are ready to schedule an appointment for taking the Computer based Praxis 1 Exam, call Prometric candidate services at 1-800-853-6773. If you plan on taking the paper based Praxis I test, logon to www.ets.org for more information.
To take the exam, the state of Alaska requires your social security number (SSN) to process your paperwork for teacher certification.
The computerized Praxis PPST can be taken once each month, and up to 6 times for a 12 month period, or up to six times per calendar year. This includes cancelled scores, and if violated your scores will not be posted and testing fees will not be refunded.
Before you submit your Initial Teacher Application with the state of Alaska, you must have your scores for the Praxis 1 sumitted and on file with the Teacher Certification Office, sent directly from ETS (Education Testing Services @ www.ets.org.)

*If you have an average score of 174 scoring no less than 172 on each of the sections (Math, Reading, Writing) your score will be considered as a passing score for the PPST Praxis 1 examination.
Other exams that are accepted for Initial Teacher Application include CBEST, WEST-B, Alabama Work Keys, Florida Teacher Certification Exams, Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators, Illinois Certification Testing System, Michigan Test for Teacher Certification, New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Basic Skills, New York State Teacher Certification Liberal Arts and Sciences Test, and the Oklahoma General Education Test.
