The PRAXIS I Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) IS a REQUIREMENT for the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
Before you can apply for standard or provisional licensure for the District of Columbia you must pass the PPST or Praxis 1 in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics with the following scores (A Composition of scores is not acceptable):
10710 , PPST Reading - 172
20720 , PPST Writing - 171
10730 , PPST Mathematics - 174
5710, Computerized PPST Reading -172
5720, Computerized PPST Writing - 171
5730, Computerized PPST Mathematics - 174
Tests may be taken 1 time per month up to 6 times in a year. Violations will not be refunded or reported.
The Praxis I can be taken in paper-based or computer-based formats.
For computer-based testing centers go to a Prometric Testing Center near District of Columbia either in Maryland or Pennsylvania. To find the closest Testing Center go to www.prometric.com.
If you are a teacher coming from out of state with a license from an accredited college/university, and have at least 3 complete years of full-time teaching experience within the last 7 years, holding the highest license given by that specific state at the time an application is turned in to the District of Columbia, might be eligible for the test exemption waiver.
