The Praxis I Pre-Professional-Skills-Test (PPST) is required by all undergraduate students seeking admission into an approved North Carolina Teacher Education Program. All students are required to satisfactorily finish the ETS Praxis I PPST in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Students are permitted to fulfill this requirement if they have achieved a set score on the verbal and mathematics portions of the SAT or ACT.
The following Praxis I exemptions apply:
Students with a total score of 1100 on the SAT are exempt from taking the Praxis I.
If a student has an SAT score less than 1100, but scored 550 on the Verbal test are also exempt from taking
the Reading and Writing portions, but will still need to take the Mathematics portion of the Praxis 1.
Students with an SAT score less than 1100, who scored at least 550 on the Math test are exempt from the
Mathematics portion of the Praxis i, but still need to take the Reading and Writing portions of the Praxis I
Examination.
Students who have a composite score of 21 on the ACT are exempt from the Praxis I Test.
Students with less than a composite score of 21 on the ACT, with a score of at least 21 on the English portion
of the test, are exempt from the Reading and Writing portions of the PPST or Praxis I Exam.
Students with a composite score less than 21 on the ACT, with a score of at least 21 on the Math portion, are
exempt from the Mathematics portion of the Praxis i Test.
The Praxis I can be taken one time per month up to 6 times per year, this includes cancelled scores.
The following Praxis 1 scores are required for undergrad students to be admitted into an approved teacher program in the State of North Carolina:
